Trump May Have Flip-Flopped on DACA

The Background

There’s something funky happening in Washington — but nobody’s exactly sure what. Just one week after POTUS announced the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, it appears he may have had a change of heart. After he spent a night holed up with Democrats (and doling out Chinese food, though we think Mexican would have been more appropriate), several prominent members of Congress announced that POTUS had agreed on a plan that would continue to protect young undocumented immigrants from deportation. What Else You Need to Know

While this seems like good news for anyone with a heart, some of Trump’s more racist extreme supporters were pretty peeved that he was doing business with the enemy — and for renegging on his campaign promises. Trump’s fan base took to social media to express their outrage, including longtime fan Ann Coulter, who tweeted, “At this point, who DOESN’T want Trump impeached?” Another called the decision “a betrayal of the highest order.” Trump did try to calm his fan base, tweeting, “No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent.” He also reminded his supporters that any deal would still be subject to a vote.

What’s Next?

Despite some reports to the contrary, Trump said that godforsaken wall is still coming, it’ll just come later, “the wall is going to be built, it’ll be funded a little bit later.” In better news, he said the DACA negotiations are “close to concluding.” (You win some, you lose some.)
