A Gunman Just Attacked Congressmen in Alexandria

The Background

Early yesterday morning, a man opened fire on a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, injuring five participants. Eventually police notified the public that two congressmen (including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise), a Congressional staffer, a United States Capitol police officer and a lobbyist were among the injured. Authorities also injured the shooter, who was later identified as James T. Hodgkinson. The shooter died from his injuries in hospital. Global News

What Else You Need to Know

As details emerged about Hodgkinson and his affiliations, it became clear that this was a targeted anti-Trump attack. The suspect was a very vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders, and claimed that he was the only candidate that truly cared about the working class. Hodginkson was unemployed and believed to have been living in his car for the past two months in Virginia.

What’s Next?

While all signs point to a lone wolf attack, the FBI is looking into Hodgkinson’s associates, past whereabouts, and social media activity and interactions just to be sure.
