For the Love of Loyalty

If there’s one thing we don’t love (more than Canada’s ever-changing real estate market, that is) it’s getting sucked into a one-sided relationship.

Everyone’s been there, right? You think your pal/partner is perfect — they appear to be loyal, honest, and helpful — then one day they pull the rug out from underneath you and you realize you aren’t actually getting what you signed up for.

The same feeling can extend to everyday things, like rewards programs. You sign up thinking you’ll be able to use your hard-earned points when you want, how you want, and where you want, then suddenly the rules change. The program ends, your points expire, or you can’t spend your rewards like you thought you could. Bugger.

It’s one giant face palm emoji. Luckily, not every program is as terrible as that.

Our go-to is RBC Rewards®. As one of the top rewards programs in Canada, it gives us (and other credit card-carrying RBCers) access to amazing brands and products that can be ordered using points. What’s more, their app lets us do everything while we’re on the go — from tracking our balance to redeeming points.

“Our philosophy is to help clients get the most out of their rewards program while providing an exceptional and engaging experience.  We have designed our program to provide our clients with the greatest rewards value. We want to make it easier for clients to redeem instantly and more frequently,” says Jacquelina Calisto, Vice President of Loyalty and Rewards at RBC.

Calisto and her team spend a lot of time ensuring clients who use an RBC Rewards credit card are pleased with the company’s proprietary rewards program. Not only have they lined up an A+ (and addictive) roster of places where you can use your points (think Appleand Saks Fifth Avenue), they’ve also created an app that makes redeeming easy.

Even booking travel on points (like luxurious hotel stays, flights, or decadent nights out) is simple and straightforward. (Which pairs perfectly with our penchant for planning a trip with a glass of Pinot in hand.)

RBC clients (who we now want to be friends with) openly rave about being able to travel the world for free thanks to RBC. Which is probably why the program is rated so highly in Canada.

“We’re committed to delivering on the promise of ‘any, any, any’ to our Avioners,” Calisto explained. “That’s why we provide clients with the flexibility to book travel on any airline, any flight, at any time — that means no blackout periods, seat restrictions, or points expiry.”=
