Canadian Caught in the Crossfire of Friday’s NYC Hospital Shooting

The Background

On Friday, a disgruntled ex-employee stormed Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York City and shot seven people before killing himself. One of the injuries proved fatal, but the other six victims are stable and have been recovering in the hospital over the weekend. One of the doctors is a Canadian — 29-year-old Justin Timperio from St. Catherines, Ontario — and underwent surgery yesterday to repair liver and kidney damage. Thankfully, his father said he’s recovering “very well.” NY Daily News

The attack was not related to terrorism. The assailant, 35-year-old Dr. Henry Bello, had faced sexual assault allegations and was evidently holding a grudge against his former colleagues. He sent a note to the New York Daily News before arriving at the hospital with a rifle, blaming his co-workers for his troubles and saying they had “forced him to resign.”

What’s Next?

One of the victims was released from hospital yesterday and the others are recovering and should be released shortly.
